When Sam Hersh hunts for his vanished brother in Brutalist D.C., he is pulled into a world of manipulation, misinformation, and the potential of true communication.
The themes behind the story
This project blends sci-fi and noir to explore what it means to communicate as humans. At its core, it is a story about how we reach for connection, how we distort it, and its possibilities. It examines the collective and measurable nature of truth against the backdrop of how little we truly know about our reality. Brutal architecture, phenomenology, information theory and human vulnerability intersect in a narrative world where every character embodies a different practice of communication.
There are two rolls available, one male and one female, with character bios.
This is a self produced project so sadly it is non-union and unpaid. However, there is an opportunity to properly rehearse and play with the material so we can tell the most honest story we can. Plus meals!
Auditions will close Monday, October 6th
A warm yet dry-witted federal officer, Celia lives by the motto, “You get what you give in the world.” Her philosophy makes her charismatic in her initial actions but can be ruthless depending on what she is reacting to. Especially as a woman carving her way through a demanding, male-dominated field. She often adapts to and hides behinds being “one of the boys” to gain footing, but beneath her easy charm runs a relentless drive to cleanse corruption. Unlike most of her peers, Celia is among the few aware of the alien presence, and she believes humanity’s only path forward is through vulnerability and transparency.
A misinformation agent stuck in his ways, Frank hides behind the mask of a friendly mentor named Paul. To the main character, he seems like a steady ally, but beneath the surface he casually reframes the world as cruel, hostile, and full of enemies. In the end, he leans fully into his nature: a man who gets small dopamine hits from witnessing cruelty toward humans and life itself. Actor must capture the duality of warm trust on the outside, corrosive darkness underneath.
